Wools produced in this region are much better than that produced in the Central Plain region of China (in many regions, wools are cut twice a year including spring wool and autumn wool). Therefore, in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, due to the merits of softness, brightness and oiliness of Ningxia wool along with exquisite handicraft, Ningxia was designated as the production base of carpets for loyal families and temples. Wools used in Sinkiang-style carpets in Xu's new collection carpets are all directly acquired from Hetian region of Sinkiang with thin furs, long fiber and excellent elasticity (similar to Zelanian wool and bright and beautiful colors.
3. Cotton wools used in Xu's carpets are all produced through manual spinning. As for manual spinning for carpets, cotton threads and woolen threads must be mentioned here. In ancient times, threads were made manually. The merits of hand spinning are that only unimproved wools are use and the under hair content in the wool is high while the cashmere is thin and fiber is short and cashmere can be spun directly in the wool yarns without carding the order of wools in hand spinning. Therefore, cashmere content is high in the wool yarns in hand spinning along with high elasticity, strong pulling force and intensity and beauty and durability. However, the costs are several times higher than machine spinning. And one worker can only spin 100 to 150 grams of cotton threads plus wool threads one day.
